There are many similarities and overlaps between psychoeducational and neuropsychological testings. Neuropsychological testing, however, often includes more tests that measure different cognitive processes such as executive functioning (neurologically-based skills such as organizational skills that are often a struggle for people with attention disorders), visual processing, auditory processing, memory, etc. The goal of a neuropsychological testing may be to determine possible medical conditions or diagnoses or determine the specific impact that an illness or injury might have had on a person’s functioning.

A psychoeducational evaluation, on the other hand, often has more in-depth testing into educational skills (reading, math, writing). Its goal is to examine whether there is an educational disability that is impacting a child’s learning and his/ her ability to be successful in school. The testing should also help determine appropriate interventions.
