Educational Testing for
Clear Answers and a Confident Path Forward

Educational testing provides clear answers about how your child learns and what support will help them succeed.

We offer high-quality assessments conducted by a licensed and certified school psychologist.  There are many reasons you may want to an educational evaluation of your child.  Some parents choose an evaluation simply to better understand their child’s strengths and weaknesses and whether their child is working up to their potential.  Other parents choose an educational assessment to learn whether their child has a learning disability or an attention disorder.

Common questions that parents have that seek an educational evaluation:

  • Why does my child put in effort but continues to struggle in school and not get the grades that reflect his effort?
  • Why is my child so frustrated doing homework?
  • Why does my child seem like he is seeing a concept for the first time when homework is supposed to be a review and reinforcement of concepts learned in school?
  • Why does it seem like my child needs to study so much harder than his friends?
  • Why does my child study hard one night and then the next day seem to not remember the material at all?
  • Does my child have a learning disability such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia?
  • Is my son just “being a boy”, or does he actually have an attention disorder or hyperactivity?

The more you know about your child’s learning style, strengths, and weaknesses, the better you and the school can support him or her to ensure your child gets the necessary help to succeed in school.

An evaluation of your child can range from a simple classroom observation to a full psychoeducational assessment, and everything in between.  An educational evaluation could include the following components, depending on your child’s individual needs and questions:

  • Review of school records and previous testing
  • Interviews with parents, child, and/or teacher(s)
  • Classroom observation(s)
  • Intellectual Quotient (IQ)
  • Cognitive Processing (could include verbal ability, visual processing of information, auditory processing of information, short-term memory, long-term memory, processing speed)
  • Reading
  • Math
  • Written Expression
  • Listening Comprehension
  • Social-emotional-behavioral rating scales (including emotional concerns such as anxiety and behavior concerns such as attention problems and hyperactivity)

Evaluations include an in-office conference to discuss assessment results as well as a comprehensive written report detailing test findings and a treatment recommendation plan. If clients travel a distance for testing, the feedback conference can be done via Skype or FaceTime if that is more convenient.

Most feedback sessions are scheduled within two weeks of data collection.  It is important to us at ETS to get you the information you need as soon as possible.
