A: It totally depends on each individual child. A lot of kids need to have some time to play and burn off some excess energy at the end of a long school day before they are ready to sit and focus again. In fact, research does support that physical exercise can help with attention. On the other hand, some students are difficult to “reel back in” to the school mode after they have been out to play. With this latter group, often the opportunity to go play is a motivating reward for getting their work done. So, the answer is, it all depends on your child and you may need to try both ways to see what works best for you.
